Peshawar Zalmi
Peshawar Zalmi is a professional T20 cricket team in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) that was founded in 2015. The team is based in Peshawar, the capital of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Since its inception, the team has become one of the most popular and successful franchises in the PSL, with a passionate fanbase that stretches beyond the KPK province.
Peshawar Zalmi Owner
The Peshawar Zalmi franchise is owned by Javed Afridi, who is also the CEO of Haier Pakistan. Afridi has been instrumental in the success of the team, providing unwavering support to the players and the management. He has also been very active in using the Peshawar Zalmi platform to promote cricket in the KPK province, particularly in the tribal areas where the sport was banned for many years due to security concerns.
Motto:
One of the defining characteristics of the Peshawar Zalmi team is its motto, “Zalmi Tarana,” which means the “Anthem of the Youth.” The motto reflects the team’s commitment to promoting cricket among young people in Pakistan, particularly in the KPK province. The team has also been active in promoting women’s cricket, launching the Zalmi Women’s Cricket League in 2019 to provide a platform for female cricketers in Pakistan.
Peshawar Zalmi Success Story
On the field, the Peshawar Zalmi team has been one of the most successful franchises in the PSL. In the inaugural season of the PSL in 2016, the team finished as runners-up, losing to Islamabad United in the final. However, the team bounced back in 2017 and won the PSL title, defeating Quetta Gladiators in the final. The team has also finished as runners-up in the PSL in 2024 and 2019, before making it to the playoffs in 2023 and 2024.
One of the key factors behind the Peshawar Zalmi’s success has been its strong squad of players.
